Surrounded by rugged mountains, and situated on the edge of Lake Wakatipu, fly fishing Queenstown has some amazing opportunities within 45mins to an hours drive of the main township. At one end of Lake Wakatipu is the small settlement of Glenorchy, from which is several world class New Zealand fly fishing rivers holding both brown and rainbow trout.

These are accessed either by foot or for those a little pressed for time but wanting a once in a lifetime New Zealand fly fishing adventure the use of a Helicopter is recommended to get into the more remote stretches of river.

We will mostly cast to sighted fish ranging in size from 3-6lb,but there's always the possibility of hooking up much larger fish and each season a few lucky anglers land fish in the 10lb+ range. The above trophy brown trout tipped the scales at 12lb and was spotted, cast too and hooked by Jonathon ,making it to the net after an epic 30min battle.!

Queenstown has it's own International airport making it easily accessible for you to fly directly into a world renowned New Zealand fly fishing destination! I will pick you up from the airport at an arranged time and within an hour have you starting your fly fishing Queenstown adventure in a region renowned for its landscapes and scenery. The region offers spring creeks, freestone rivers and streams, and smaller alpine lakes all of which are found in a variety of settings, from ancient Beech forests, open tussock lined river valleys to green pastures and fertile farmland.

As for dinner meals Madam Woos , Botswana Butchery (fine dining) and Rata (fine dining) are all fantastic there are so many choices for eating out in Queenstown ! But I’d recommend booking well ahead to reserve a table for most evenings to avoid missing out.
There is a good local supermarket close to the centre of town called Fresh Choice on the Gorge Rd. north of town it stocks a wide variety of products.

My top 3 things to do in Queenstown , Shotover Jet boat ride, Catch the gondola up to the Skyline , head out to Amisfield Winery for amazing wine & food.

See you soon !

Cheers

Paul
